Remember the dreaded moment in class when your teacher would have you stand and say your name and tell the class about yourself? As someone who always struggled with what to say in that moment, I feel your pain. Not because I’m afraid to talk in front of people or because I’m shy, but because I’ve never felt like I was that interesting. What do you say in the 20 seconds you have to introduce yourself to strangers? What do you feel is important for them to know about you? Through this blog, I want to have more than those 20 seconds for you to get to know me. I want you to be able to follow along on this journey with me as I grow into my identity in Christ. After thinking about how I should introduce myself I talked with those who know me best. I asked them one question and prepared myself to be roasted because that’s how we show love.

I asked, “How would you describe me to someone who does not know me?”

With that question in mind, here are their answers:

“Paiton is an advocate. She will stand up when everyone else stays seated. She will speak when others are too afraid to. She’s gentle and kind and she’d would never admit it. She’s an incredible listener. Paiton doesn’t just listen though, she acts on it. She moves and encourages you to move. She’s not only the first to give but the last- she’ll come back to give again just to make sure you have enough. She’s critical of herself, which is kind of beautiful because she wants to live challenged- not striving but accountable and growing. She’ll play tough and she is tough but she also exists to love. It’s evident.” (heart= happy)

“Strong, independent, hard working, dedicated, hard headed (possibly), and sleepy (always).”

“Very dedicated in achieving your goal when your goal is set. Strong willed and very opinionated. Also a kind hearted, loving, caring person.” (thanks Dad)

“Going to school to be a teacher (done! Graduation is Saturday), you love watching David Dobrik, and the Vlog squad (I love YouTube in general). You’re a big fan of naps, you say how you feel, your momma raised you to be strong and independent, good ole girl (lol grace)”

“You are strong willed, determined, caring, and a procrastinator (I do my best work under slight pressure- thanks to you Momma).”

“You have a big heart, you are persistent, protective over those you care about, strong willed, and independent.”

“Kind, caring, compassionate, strong willed, honest (My Poppy has always said you never have to wonder what Paiton is thinking because she will tell ya).”

I’m grateful for my community, family, and friends. They’ve seen me through all seasons of life. One of those seasons being when I thought it was a good idea to put a huge blonde chunk in my hair. Lesson learned, let’s pretend it never happened, and pray all picture evidence will not be presented.

I can’t wait for the next year when I do life alongside my World Race family. I cannot wait to learn more about myself and my identity in the Lord. Can’t wait to share it with you. I was made for this.
