Jogging Leads To Jesus?

Today I went for a jog. If you know me, you know what a miracle that is in itself. While I was jogging I felt God speaking to me. I was five minutes in when I noticed that I was looking down, watching my feet and the ground under them. With my head down, I was counting down the minutes until the misery (just kidding… kinda) was going to be over. I was out of breath and could barely breathe. My legs were hurting. I was pouring sweat. I felt like I was dying as I ran up a small incline. As I continued to jog I felt a tug in my mind. I tried to focus on other things, my breathing, or how good I would feel when this was done and over with. God started to bring a lot of things to my mind.

Why are you only focused on the pain? Why is your head down? Look up. See the beauty that is surrounding you. You only see and look at what is right in front of you. I see the whole picture. I see the beginning, middle, and end. Do not be so consumed with what you can see but look forward to what is to come. I am in control. Do not lose heart because of the pain that you feel. I want to do a work in you through your pain and growth. While you’re counting down minutes and waiting, I am working.

God had brought these thoughts to me. I had to be intentional in choosing my posture. Stop looking down. Look up. Shoulders back, you’re hanging your head down. Every few minutes I would catch myself consumed in the count down again. I had to continue to choose good posture and look toward Him. When I did, my jog became more enjoyable. I picked my head up and looked around me. It was a beautiful day. The grass is green. The flowers and trees are blooming. The sky was so blue. The sun was shining and it felt so good outside.

May we never become so focused on where we are now that we forget to look up. To look toward Him. At times this posture seems impossible. Lord do not let us forget that you are sovereign. Always on time. Working in our waiting.

May we always choose good posture. Heads held high.

And also may I never forget the day that I actually went jogging. Thank you Jesus.

🙂
